An ode to baroque opulence: Emile Chouriet presents its "Contemporary Luxury" women's collection

Emile Chouriet draws inspiration from the 17th century and the emergence of the Baroque era of art and architecture for its collection of feminine watches: the Contemporary Luxury. Reinterpreting the codes of grandeur and sophistication of the Baroque style in a contemporary line of wristwatches, the Contemporary Luxury collection is timelessly opulent.

Walking around the heart of Geneva, one cannot help but be enchanted by its grandest historical building. Many of them date back to the Baroque era of the 17th century. Originating from Italy, the Baroque style made its way across Europe as a more decadent and theatrical take on Renaissance architecture, with dramatic lighting and colour, illusory effects such as trompe l'oeil, and designs that defied traditional geometric features. It evokes images of extravagance, abundance, and ornate yet elegant beauty, which is exactly what Emile Chouriet seeks to convey through its Contemporary Luxury collection.

The Emile Chouriet Contemporary Luxury captures the attention by incorporating many elements of the Baroque style such as the curved and twisted lines, the detailed surface treatments and the emphasis of contrasts. An object of movement and fantasy, the steel case is far from static. Every line and curve convey a sense of flowing metamorphosis. Crafted in stainless steel with the option of brilliant white diamonds expertly set on the curved bezel, the case measures 27.70mm in width and 27.80mm in length, offering elegant proportions on any wrist.

Ergonomic in its contours, the Contemporary Luxury is delivered on a leather strap matching the dial colour or on a steel bracelet.

Within the ornate steel frame is a choice of four vibrant dials: blue, green, red and blue with diamond hour-markers. Reflecting light with a subtle metallic sheen, the dials feature a sunray pattern with bright white Roman numerals as the ultimate Baroque accent. Faceted lance-shaped hands mark the passage of the hours and minutes, while the seconds are indicated by large central hand. A white date window at 3 o’clock maintains the harmony of the hour numerals.

Hidden behind the delicately brushed and slightly curved steel case back is the EC5318 calibre, the brand's first internally developed and manufactured automatic movement, which was conceived exclusively for women's watches. A rare feat even among established watch manufactures, the EC5318 is equipped with an in-house produced regulating organ, including the hairspring. When fully wound, it provides a power reserve of 45 hours.

Baroque in its lines yet subtle enough to be worn for all occasions, the Contemporary Luxury is sure to appeal to connoisseurs and aesthetes who appreciate the grandiose aesthetics and intricate detailing of one of Europe’s most fascinating design periods.
